Summer’s Winnow

Poem

Summer’s Winnow

On this day in Maine
where the gulls bellow
the summer’s breeze
bend bluets mellow
sift blanch rocky beach
and salt-laden sea
though
as short as a day’s tide
the hardened north
mooring at due time
to horizon’s gleam we gaze
for in a moment’s pass
the sun yearns to sleep
like a cold dead man
floating

Prayer for Thankfulness

“Lord may I thank thee, for sun, for rain, for sleet, and for snow. Whether warm or cold, every new morning is a gift, so may I line my heart with gratitude.” Amen.

Scripture

“Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills. He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.” Psalms 147:7-9 (ESV)
